On September 17, 2008 at 1350 hours the Volunteers from Station 3 along with numerous EMS departments were alerted to the intersection of Point Lookout Road and Heron Lane for a single vehicle accident with a report of one subject trapped. Engine 34 (FF. Brown), Squad 3 (Capt. Pennington) along with Chief 3A (Gould) were on the street in less than 30 seconds of dispatch with a total of 12 volunteers. Engine 34 arrived at 1355 hours and advised the dispatch was correct and there was need for extrication. Squad 3 and Chief 3A arrived together and as the squad started the extrication, Chief 3A established the "Great Mills Command". Once an EMS unit arrived they performed a quick assessment and determined that the patient would need to be flown to a trauma center. Command had already requested the medevac to be landed in a nearby field. Within nine minutes of the squad's arrival the crew had taken the passenger side door, the roof and removed the patient from the vehicle. Engine 33 handled the landing zone just south of the accident scene. Chief 3A held the Command and Capt. 3 held the operations.
